Just the other side of the wall:
A concept understood by all.
As children, playing in their room
Can hear Mom call, "...'Be dinner soon!"
As Dad, awakened out of sleep
By a barking dog, his vigil, keeps.
A message sent by an unseen mouth.
Clearly received, without a doubt.
It sometimes sounds like a distant call.
Yet, it's just The other-side of the wall.
Is there a better way to understand
God's prayer relationship with Man?
What'er we lack, we need only call;
For it's just The other-side of the wall.
When we need a friend, we need not cry;
For, just an inch away, He's standing by.
Of course, it's hard, when you can't see His face:
...Can't touch His hand, or fix His place.
To believe and trust, and firmly know
That He's as close down here, - below,
As if we were by His side on the Emmaus Way,
And He lovingly hears each word we say.
Is prayer a mystery? Not at all!
Just the Lord and I, and an aging wall.
As the years have passed, that wall's still there.
But I think it's gotten thin, with wear.
And where'er I go in this earthly tent,
Which, for my journey, - He has lent,
I need not worry, nor fuss, nor fall.
He'll help me from His side of the wall.
And, I need not dread that dying day,
When He removes that wall and throws it away.
Yes, that will be the best day of all,
When I move to The Other-Side of the wall.
